Today at a local Guthrie High School 181 students did not attend school due to a disturbing message found on the bathroom wall. The message said that on 4-29 (today) the student would shoot all the black students and then bomb the school. Many students did not attend school today because of the threat, and the ones who did were forced to enter through one door and were searched as they entered. The students were not allowed to leave at lunch.
Of all of the bomb threats and school shootings that have occurred few have been openly racist. This blatant stating of "shooting all the black students" brings to light the problem that we have discussed all semester.
Many of the students interviewed knew nothing about the incident and showed up at school uninformed.
In an interview a young man described the procedure coming to and leaving from school today, and was puzzled at the events. After the bomb threat was released many students questioned why school was held at all.
I find it very strange that school was held today after such a threat. The school should be more cautious about such threats because history has proven it only takes an instant for something tragic to happen.
The thing that shocked me most, however, was the suspects use of race. It just bring to focus the racism that is still happening so close to home and what a danger it is to us all.

Eldorado, Texas, has been the topic on every news program from CNN Headline News to Dr. Phil Now. According to CNN.com, Members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have recently opened the doors to their secluded ranch in which over 400 children were removed. The children did not know who their own identities, who their mothers were, or even which people they were related to. In the recent weeks the children have been taken into custody of the sate, and hundred of lawyers have made their way to Texas to offer their pro-bono services.
Previously, the Mormon offshoot's distrust for outsiders prompted members to close themselves off so their purity wasn't tainted and so their rituals and religion didn't draw scrutiny, experts say.
CNN reports that calls were made to a Texas family shelter March 29 and 30 from a female identifying herself as Sarah Barlow, the affidavit says.
The caller said she was 16, had a baby about 8 months old and was pregnant again. She said that her 49-year-old husband was physically and sexually abusive toward her and that they were living at the YFZ Ranch.
The phone calls were made from a prepaid cell phone with no available records, according to the affidavit. However, it has been used in other cases linked to Swinton, the document says.
CNN went on to say that although Texas officials said they have not found the woman who made the calls, they said they have found evidence that girls as young at 13 are forced into marriages with older men at the ranch.
The FLDS has denied that any abuse takes place at the ranch, CNN.com reported.
These allegations have shocked the nation, and everyone can only wait to see if the children will be returned to their "home."
Rev. Jeremiah Wright has been the topic of many political discussions in the passing weeks. Rev. Wright's comments have created opposition from even those who were not even politically involved in this election. Barack Obama's speech in Philadelphia made it very clear that he was not running from his former pastor, but accepting his differences, and moving on. But apparently this was not enough for Rev. Wright, who went on to make even more outrageous comments in which Obama claimed he was just "taking center stage."
“I have been a member of Trinity Church since 1992. I have known Rev. Wright for almost 20 years,” he said at a Winston-Salem, North Carolina press conference Tuesday. “The person I saw yesterday is not the person I met 20 years ago.” Obama went on to say he was outraged with Rev. Wright's comments that seemed to suggest that the U.S. government was responsible for the spreading of AIDS in the black community. Obama simply said that he had given his pastor the "benefit of the doubt" before his speech in Philadelphia, but now is appalled by the recent comments.
It is a very unique position the Rev. Wright has taken during this campaign, and it has become a very prominent one, at that. However, the other candidates may be using this to their advantage. According to CNN.com, John McCain has brought this issue to light in his campaign, in which Hillary Clinton decided to speak out against.
" I regret the efforts by the Republicans to politicize this matter and I believe that if Senator McCain were serious he would do more than just send a letter, she said. “He is the putative nominee — I think he could very clearly tell the North Carolina party, tell the Mississippi party that he would not tolerate those kinds of advertisements. And I'm waiting to see if he does that."
Although Clinton said she would not have remained a member of the church after the comments made by Rev. Wright, she has not used this situation again Obama and has, in a way, stood up for him during the controversy.
In one of my earlier blogs I had written about the governor who stepped down from office because of his involvement with a prostitution ring. The former governor, Eliot Spitzer, was caught with high-priced call girl "Kristen" and then asked to resign from his position.
According to CNN.com, Ashley Alexandra Dupre, or "Kristen," is now suing the founder of "Girls Gone Wild" for more than $10 million. Dupre, while vacationing in Miami, Florida, was allegedly persuaded into showing her breasts for the GGW cameras. According to Dupre, she was only 17 years old and was not old enough to sign the consent form.
"In March, Francis was negotiating to pay Dupre $1 million to appear in the "Girls Gone Wild" magazine and on the company's touring bus. The deal fell through when Francis found he already owned video footage of Dupre," said CNN.com.
Apparently Dupre is upset she will no longer receive the $1 million from the company, but is $10 million really a necessary move on her part? Dupre has made a name for herself as a call girl, and she clearly intends to make a living this way, but I find it absolutely ridiculous she is able to make this much money over something of this nature.
"But I think it's ironic that she charged Gov. Spitzer $2,000 for sex and she wants to charge me 10 million for taking some naked pictures of her," Francis told CNN. "I feel like I'm getting a raw deal."

Tuesday authorities in Austria discovered what is being called one of the most horrifying acts in world history after a 19-year-old girl was brought to a clinic unconscious and convulsing. The girls care led to the uncovering of many more horrific facts. According to CNN.com, Josef Fritzl fathered six children with his daughter, whom he kept imprisoned under his home for 24 years.
On August 8, 1984, Elisabeth Fritzl was drugged by her father, handcuffed, and locked in the basement where she remained for 24 years. He then repeatedly drugged and raped her, which resulted in seven children, six of which survived. In 1996, as Elisabeth told authorities, she had twins, one of which died from lack of care. Her father then burned the infant in the oven of their home. Three of the surviving children were brought upstairs where Fritzl and his wife, Rosemarie, adopted them. The three that were not moved upstairs lived in the basement with their mother. Elisabeth reported her father brought them food and clothing.
When the eldest daughter, who was living downstairs, fell ill with convulsions her mother begged Fritzl to take her to the hospital, in which he did, according to CNN.com. Fritzl told his wife that Elisabeth had dropped the daughter at the door with a note begging for them to care for her. The rest quickly unraveled.
In this devastating case, many issues were brought to light, especially those of gender roles in the country of Austria, and specifically the Fritzl family. I cannot even imagine the life the wife of this man had to be living all these years, and how she must feel now. If this man could do this to his daughter and her children one could only hope these terrible things were not happening to his wife.
According to CNN.com, Fritzl is facing up to 15 years for rape.

Last week New York Governor, Eliot Spitzer, announced his resignation after allegations of using a prostitution ring at least eight times in eight months. Spitzer was linked to "Kristen" who was later reported as Ashley Youmans, an aspiring 22-year-old singer from New Jersey, the New York Times reported.
According to the source, an affidavit says "Client 9" paid $4,300 for two and a half hours with a prostitute. The source said Spitzer rented two rooms -- one under the name of a political donor.
Spitzer's alleged involvement with the ring was caught on a federal wiretap, sources said.
The prostitute, identified only as "Kristen" worked for the Emperors Club, which charged between $1,000 and $5,500 an hour and operated in New York; Los Angeles, California; Miami, Florida; London, England; and Paris, France, according to court papers.
Over half of the story found on CNN.com was dedicated to describing Youmans. Many television reports on CNN, MSNBC and Fox have been the same way. In my opinion, this should not be the focus of the story. The Governor of New York is having an affair with a prostitute. The blame should be on him and only him.
Today's society has turned focused and skewed the story into focusing on this girl.
"I am deeply sorry that I did not live up to what was expected of me," Spitzer said. "I will try once again outside of politics to serve the common good." (CNN.com)
This statement and the actions of Spitzer should be the focus of this tragic representation of leadership.

In Barack Obama's speech over race and politics he strongly confronts the issue of race in America. Obama clearly points out this is a time for change in the United States and we can make this happen together.
In his speech he addresses the Rev. Jeremiah Wright's comments that have over-taken the media. Obama states that he has sat in his church and strongly disagreed with what Wright has said while in his church. He also stated that this is probably how many of us have felt while sitting in our own churches.
However, Obama said Wright is the one that helped him into his Christian faith. He says his church, Trinity, embodies the entire black community.
According to barackobama.com, Obama said, "I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother - a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe."
This comment brings out the true character of this man that is running for president. He publicly overcame statements that could have been very hurtful to him personally. This is a huge step not only in a political aspect, but this is a huge step for American history.
In the recent weeks a political uprising has taken over the already intense election taking place. The Rev. Jeremiah Wright has made many racial remarks about Barack Obama. Many people are speaking out about this outrage, but one person in particular is civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis.
According to CNN.com, Lewis made many fiery comments regarding Wright's comments at his forum on faith and civil rights at Washington's National Cathedral. Lewis made it clear that he feels this election could be a monumental time in American history.
"During the past few days, the issue of race and the need for reconciliation have emerged through the presidential campaign. We know, and we all know, it's not a secret America had a dark past of division and separation," Lewis said. "But if we are to emerge unscarred by hate, we must learn to understand and forgive those who have been most hostile and violent towards us."
CNN.com reports that Lewis, speaking from the same pulpit Martin Luther King Jr. spoke 40 years ago, four days before his assassination, said King's struggle for peace and equality continues today.
This struggle can be overcome by Obama's presidential win. Obama knows what it will take for the struggle with racial equality to dissipate.
The racial issue that has taken over this year's election has only made it more clear that Obama is the president that we need to get us through these trying times, and finally put to rest the racial inequality that still underlies this nation.
